A Good Yarn

8th July

“Winding yarn into hanks.

Hand spinning”

This image calls up romantic notions of the soporific whirr of the spinning wheel, it’s movements caught by the light of a warm flickering flame. This part of the Harris Tweed® making process comes after the dyed wool has been carded into soft yarn. The spinning gives the yarn a twist to give it maximum strength for weaving.
