Handmade Harris Tweed® Lampshades & Soft Furnishings

A team of two, Irene Massey and Ashleigh Gibson make bespoke, custom-made lampshades and matching soft furnishings. The idea came about when they found that there were limited options for certain colours and styles within the market. ‘Lucy Wagtail’ (named after their little cocker spaniel) was established in 2014 to answer this need. They have a simple ethos: “tell us what you dream of… and we will strive to make it happen!”
Based in the Highlands of Scotland, they’re inspired daily by their appreciation of the flora and fauna that surround them, a passion that is often reflected in their work and the materials they choose to use.

On using Harris Tweed® fabric, they told us: “This beautiful fabric is a joy to work with and the colour combinations are endless. We particularly enjoy the way that different cloths can complement each other seamlessly due to the use of the same dyed yarns used in the making of them… [The virgin wool is dyed to a] choice of earthy, beachy and vibrant colours to reflect the natural environment of the islands with their wonderfully sparkling seas, moody landscapes and pristine beaches.
The fact that this wonderful cloth has been made in the same traditional way by hand for centuries and by individual weavers fits with our view of supporting Highland makers and producers. We always know that when we buy Harris Tweed® fabric, we are buying a world class product and we hope we do it justice by producing our lampshades and soft furnishings to the highest quality standard possible.”
