The Harris Tweed® Journal

Competition Winner | The Royal Highland Show

28th July

A big thank you to everyone who visited our busy stand last month at the Royal Highland Show. Our team so enjoyed meeting with you all and sharing the Harris Tweed® Story, while enjoying some weaving demonstrations from those who had a turn on our ‘much-talked-about’ double width loom! Yes, some might say, it was a ‘farm-tastic’ event!

We are now delighted to announce our winner of the competition we held at the show, Kenneth Osborne, who can be seen below wearing his very own Harris Tweed® jacket. The other two photographs were taken at the RHS, where Kenneth had a go at pedalling our loom and Kristina, our Office Manager, enjoyed chatting with him about the role of the HTA.

Kenneth, who hails from Helensburgh, purchased this jacket in Edinburgh at Stewart Christie & Co some time ago. He told us why, in particular, he likes Harris Tweed®.
“My reasons for liking it are that it looks good, is hard-wearing, and is characteristically a Scottish product, of which I think we should all be proud. Also, it is warm to wear in Scottish winters.”

In 1957 Kenneth moved to Edinburgh to study Arts and Law at Edinburgh University. After graduation in 1962, he became a member of the Faculty of Advocates. He practiced at the Scottish Bar for 28 years and from time to time, his work actually took him to Stornoway Sheriff Court here in the Outer Hebrides, right in the ‘Home of Harris Tweed’.

Congratulations Kenneth, we hope you enjoy your Harris Tweed® fabric when it arrives with you.
