Harris Tweed® Fabric Bank | Series: Part 2

10th November

The 2017 Fabric Bank saw some amazing work produced by many talented designers. Featured here are pieces by Catherine Watts (University of Salford) and Lucy Day (Royal College of Art).

Catherine’s childrenswear range won two awards, The Dame Vivienne Westwood Ethics and Sustainability Award and the Mothercare Childrenswear Award at London Graduate Fashion Week. Catherine stated that she chose Harris Tweed® for its production traceability from beginning to end, its colours and high quality.

Lucy’s beautiful collection was inspired by the natural environments of the British Isles. She visited and documented the Scottish Highlands, the Jurassic Coast and Snowdonia through photography, drawing, print, surface manipulation and embellishment.

Lucy said, “The textiles aim to capture the moods and atmospheres of these areas of outstanding natural beauty with particular focus on the romance that the grey and the bleak can bring.”

The Harris Tweed Authority Educational Trust will be running the Fabric Bank again in 2023 and will announce when it has opened for fresh applications.
