The Harris Tweed Authority is a unique statutory body established by the Harris Tweed Act 1993 to safeguard one of the world’s most iconic textiles. The HTA is charged with both protecting the portfolio of Certification and Trademarks held, and promoting Harris Tweed® worldwide.

The Harris Tweed Authority is seeking passionate and committed individuals to join its Board and play a vital role in safeguarding the heritage, integrity and international reputation of Harris Tweed®.

There are three vacancies currently available. Board members are appointed by the Sheriff Principal for Grampian and the Highlands and Islands, reflecting the importance and integrity of the role.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of a globally recognised heritage brand while supporting the sustainability of island communities, craftsmanship and innovation within the Harris Tweed® industry.

Who We’re Looking For
We welcome expressions of interest from individuals who can bring:
• Strategic leadership or governance experience
• Commercial, legal, marketing or financial expertise
• Knowledge of heritage brands, manufacturing, rural enterprise or international markets
• A passion for protecting and promoting Harris Tweed®
• Strong independent judgement and integrity

Prior Board experience is welcomed but not essential.

The Board meets approximately 4 times per year, with a combination of in-person and online meetings.

While these roles are unremunerated, expenses are reimbursed in accordance with current rates.
