The Harris Tweed® Journal

In Memory of Neil

5th November

Today, our industry and wider island community turned out in huge numbers to say farewell at the funeral of our friend and colleague, Neil Macleod BEM.

Neil was clearly an incredibly well liked and well respected man within our island and beyond. Whilst he had many business, voluntary and community roles and interests, our particular connection with Neil was as a weaver of Harris Tweed cloth. Indeed Neil was still weaving, albeit unknown to him and us all, his final tweed, only last Friday evening.

Neil was active in the Association of Harris Tweed weavers, and had served as Chairman for a number of years. He had a particular passion for the training and mentoring of new weavers and, as a skilled engineer, had led on initiatives and projects to ever improve the workings of the Griffiths Double Width loom. We enjoyed his very regular visits to our office, he showed interest in our work and offered sage wisdom and humour on all manner of things, Harris Tweed related or not.

We know we speak for the entire Harris Tweed family in offering our most sincere condolences to Neil’s widow, Anchris, also a frequent visitor to the HTA, his son Martin and the extended Macleod family.
