The Harris Tweed® Journal

Land meets Loom

22nd July

Where land meets loom, the view from Cravadale across to Scarp echoes in every thread of this Harris Tweed® pattern. Soft blues from the Atlantic, earthy browns, and muted greens of grazing land are mirrored in this beautiful cloth.

Though now uninhabited, the island of Scarp was once home to a small crofting community, inhabited until the 1970s. Life there was shaped by resilience: the sea was both a highway and barrier, the narrow channel which separates the island from Harris, is frequently impassable due to strong currents.

Cravadale itself, remote and rugged, lies just beyond the end of the Hushinish road, a place where sheep still graze freely. It’s landscapes like these, weathered and wild, that give Harris Tweed® its inspiration.
