The Harris Tweed® Journal

Mill Moments

2nd September

What could this be: the dyeing or the washing stage of the Harris Tweed® process? There’s no date to this image, but the wooden cart and the faded yellow paper suggest its age.
We also can’t help but notice the slight unease in the millworkers’ faces, who are perhaps unused to being photographed.

Although this might not be the most notable or dramatic snapshot from the Harris Tweed Authority archives, it is moments like these that reveal an insight into a very real history, moments which contribute to the rich tapestry that is the story of Harris Tweed® fabric.
