The Harris Tweed® Journal

the Royal National Mòd

14th October

Fàilte! For the next week we’ll be featuring daily content from the Royal National Mòd (Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail) which begins today in Perth, Scotland.

For those unaware, the Mòd is organised by An Comunn Gàidhealach (The Highland Association) and was founded in Oban in 1891. As Scotland’s premier Gaelic festival, it celebrates our Gaelic linguistic and cultural heritage and provides opportunities for people of all ages to perform across a range of competitive disciplines including Gaelic music and song, highland dancing, instrumental, drama, sport and literature.

The beautiful Harris Tweed® fabric shown here was created for the Royal National Mòd in 2016 and sitting atop it in the Perth Concert Hall today was the official Mòd handbook, the Caraid a’ Mhòid (Friend of the Mòd) medal and bràist’ òr (gold badges).
