Weaver self-portrait
4th December
A unique one from our archives – this former weaver was also a highly-skilled illustrator, creating this amazing self-portrait in the early 1970s, during his few years living and working in the Outer Hebrides.

Colin Thompson went on to become a celebrated children’s author and illustrator after moving to Australia in 1995, with over 70 published works and several awards to his name.
The Harris Tweed Authority originally received this framed artwork from Mal Macleod, who had kept it after the Clansman Mill had closed down – and we also have a copy of it hanging in our lobby in the Stornoway Town Hall.
We reached out to Colin for comment but couldn’t get through to him, so if anyone who sees this is in contact with him feel free to send this on!
