Ùghdarras a’ Chlò Hearaich
Thàinig Ùghdarras a’ Chlò Hearaich gu bith tro Achd Pàrlamaid ann an 1993, a chur buidheann ùr reachdail an àite Comunn a’ Chlò Hearaich a chuireadh air chois an toiseach ann an 1909.
Ann an co-rèir ris an Achd, feumaidh An Clò Hearach “a bhith air fighe le eileanaich le làmh aig an dachaighean ann an Innse Gall, air a chrìochnachadh ann an Innse Gall, agus air a dhèanamh le clòimh a chaidh a dath agus a snìomh ann an Innse Gall.”
Tha an Achd a’ dèanamh cinnteach gu bheil an t-aodach air fad a tha air a theisteanachadh le suaicheantas Orb a’ Chlò Hearaich a’ cumail ris a’ mhìneachadh seo. Tha an reachdas seo – còmhla ri obair Ùghdarras a’ Chlò Hearaich – a’ barantachadh ainm, càileachd agus cliù a’ Chlò Hearaich.

Harris Tweed Authority
The Act of Parliament in 1993 brought into being the Harris Tweed Authority, a new statutory body, replacing the Harris Tweed Association originally set up in 1909.
In accordance with the Act, Harris Tweed cloth must be: “Handwoven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.”
The Act ensures that all cloth certified with the Harris Tweed Orb symbol complies with this definition.
This legislation – alongside the work of the Harris Tweed Authority – allows the safeguarding of the Harris Tweed name, quality and reputation.
